Lornah's last race was the Amsterdam marathon where she qualified for the 2012 Olympics. Since that race in October she just trained and didn't do any races. Right now she is building up her speed and last weekend she ran her first race in 2012, the Groet uit Schoorl 10 K in her home town Groet, Netherlands.
Lornah arrived the evening before the race in the Netherlands and the weather was pretty bad, snow and temperature below zero, a big contrast with Iten where it was 28 agrees.
The organisation of the race however worked very hard to make sure the course was not slippery. The 10 K went through the town of Groet but also through the dunes where it looked more like a cross country. Lornah started easy but after a few kilometers she picked up the pace and finished in 32:27, about one minute ahead of the second finisher. She was very happy with her time and she feels she is on the right way. Immediately after the race she flew to Ireland to see her physio Gerard Hartmann for a check up and some treatment to prevent any future problems. |

From last October 2011 till March 2012 the HATC is hosting many International top athletes and National teams. Also triathletes have discovered the HATC and the 25 metre swimming pool is every day in use by triathletes from Australia, Canada, France and other countries. Unfortunately was there not enough room to host every one who wanted to stay at the HATC this season and we want to advise athletes to book early for March, April and May because it is an Olympic season and many athletes want to prepare for the 2012 Olympics at the HATC. Athletes also realised that you can train the whole year round in Iten and not only between October and April. Between April and October there is less sun but it is still great to train and the conditions are perfect. All the Kenyan top athletes train in Iten the whole year and they perform pretty good..... Athletes with plans to come to Iten in 2012/2013 should also check already the availability because many athletes have made reservations already for next season. For your reservation just send a mail to:

Last October the HATC has opened a new restaurant and ten new double rooms to make sure there is enough capacity. The new restaurant serves the guests staying in the Deluxe rooms and has seating for about 60 people and a new open kitchen with the latest equipment. In front of the new restaurant and rooms is a field where we grow maize and vegetables for the HATC so you are sure there is always fresh and organic food. The new Deluxe rooms are spacious and each room has a toilet and solar heated shower. The rooms have a great view over the hills of Iten.

Lornah has run the Olympic qualification time for the Netherlands yesterday in the TCS Amsterdam Marathon. She needed a time sub 2:27:24 and ran a time of 2:25:52 under perfect conditions.
Her only focus was to run a time under 2:27 and she took it quite easy in the beginning to avoid any risk. She ran a pretty even pace throughout and finished third in the race and as National Marathon Champion of the Netherlands. She can now focus fully on her preparation for the London Olympic Marathon. She has done a lot of endurance but no speed to build up the right shape for this race and from now on she will focus more on speed to get ready for next years Olympics. |
