Lornah ran on June 12 her first International 10 K race since she got injured on March 1, 2009 on her right knee. She has trained the last few months very well under guidance of her physiotherapists Gerard Hartmann, Ger Keane and Bert Borghans but hasn't done a lot of speedwork yet so the race in NYC was a good test.

She started in the New York City 10 K as one of the favorites although it was probably the best women's field ever in NYC. Lornah started fast and ran the first mile in 4:56, followed by a group of 8 women. At 5 K, Lornah was still leading with only three women following her. The split time was 15:23 and they were still on pace to break the course record of 30:29.

However, Lornah slowed down a bit at 5,5 K and Lineth Masai, World Champion 10,000 meter, pushed the pace. Lornah had to let them go but was closing the gap again in the last 2 K. Masai won in 30:48 with Cross country champion Emily Chebet 2nd in 31:13 and Ethiopian Worknesh Kidane 3rd in 31:14, all three in a personal best time. Lornah finished 4th in 31:40. She was very happy with her time and the fact that she ran without pain for the first time in several years.

Her next race is the Stadsloop in Appingedam, Netherlands, on June 26, also a 10 K.
