Lornah 2nd in 7 Hills.

Lornah trained hard after her World Championship title in Udine. She wanted to attack the World record on the 15 K in the 7 Hills race in Nijmegen, Netherlands. However, it was cold and there was a strong wind so after 3 K it was clear that Lornah was not able to break the record. She was fighting hard against the wind for 14.9 K but was out sprinted at the finish line by Ethiopian Bizunesh Bekele.

Lornah will run on December 23 the Lotto Brussels XC in Brussels, Belgium.

Cake for Lornah !
Lornah is always shopping at the local Spar in Groet and she loves their fresh bread. Last week she told this on television and the Spar Bakery was very happy with this and decided to make a special cake for her. Peter Poldervaart from the Spar in Groet handed over the cake on October 24.

LORNAH RUNS DUBAI
Lornah will run the Dubai Marathon on January 18, 2008. She had offers from other races but the timing of the Dubai Marathon is perfect. There is almost no time difference with Kenya, where Lornah will rain, and this also helps. The timing of Dubai is perfect because it gives us more time to recover from the race and prepare for the 2008 Olympics.

Tough Marathon Debut for Hilda Kibet
Hilda had her marathon debut last Sunday in Amsterdam and the plan was to run sub 2.30. The training went very well and the conditions on race day were perfect. However, right from the start she felt a a bit weak and couldn't push the pace. She did well up to 25 K but couldn't push anymore and lost some time in the last 17 K. She finished in 2:32 in 6th position.
Hilda will now take some time to recover and will focus on the cross for this winter. The marathon was a good experience and we believe she will be a very good marathon runner in the near future.

Luc Krotwaar DNF in Amsterdam
Luc had a tough year after the Rotterdam Marathon and he never recovered very well. He trained very hard to get ready for the Amsterdam Marathon but it was quite impossible to get back the right shape. He tried hard but after 25 K he decided to stop.
Luc will first recover completely and after that we will see what marathon Luc will run to qualify for the 2008 Olympics.

Lornah wins in Pettinengo
Lornah won the 4 K race in Pettinego in Italy last Sunday. Only a week after her victory in the World Championships in Udine, Italy, she was again the strongest in the 4 K nearby Milan. She ran a time of 12:21 over a very hilly course, this was the 2nd fastest time ever in the 37 year history of the race.

Lornah's next race will be the Seven Hills 15 K in Nijmegen on November 18.

Good test for Hilda and Lornah Hilda Kibet had a tough trainings week but still managed to finish 2nd in the Dam tot Dam loop 10 Mile. She ran a steady race and felt good all the time. Since the Dam tot Dam she trained again very well and she is ready for her Marathon debut in the ING Amsterdam Marathon on October 21.

Lornah was injured for quite some time but she is back on the roads ! She ran the Fortis Singelloop 10 K in Utrecht last weekend and ran a good race. Since that time she improved a lot and this year she won the Half Marathons of Egmond, CPC and NYC. She is also # 2 on the World Ranking List 10 K. Hilda applied for her Dutch passport and passed all the tests earlier this year. Her aim is to run in 2008 the World Cross Country Championships and the Beijing Olympics.

LORNAH OUT OF OSAKA

Lornah has decided to cancel her participation in the World Championships in Osaka next month. She got injured earlier this month during a road race in London and she won't be recovered in time for Osaka.
This is a big disappointment because the World Championships in Osaka was one of the high lights of the year for Lornah and a test for the 2008 Olympics.

However, she is now working very hard to recover and will focus on the World Championships on the Road in Udine in October.

Hilda to NYC

Hilda Kibet will run next week Sunday, August 5, the NYC Half Marathon.
Hilda is training in Itn, Kenya and is getting in a good shape. She expects to do well in her first Half Marathon in the USA.
Hilda won this year already the Half Marathons of Egmond and CPC in the Netherlands and the 10 K races in Schoorl, Brunssum and London.

Lornah meet Mayor Ken Livingstone of London

Last weekend Lornah had a meeting with Mayor Ken Livingstone of London.
They talked before the British 10 K London Run and the mayor was very interested in Lornah's activities for the Lornah Kiplagat Foundation.
He wished the top women Catherine Ndereba, Hilda Kibet and Lornah all the best for the race. For Hilda it worked very well because she won the race in a very good time of 32:34.

Lornah and the Van Rheeneschool

Lornah was invited last week at the van Rheeneschool in Bergen. The van Rheeneschool is a big supporter of the Lornah Kiplagat Foundation and organised several events to raise money. They had a auction and they had a sponsor run. They raised a lo of money and handed the check over to Lornah and Cees Pronk, Chairman of the Lornah Kiplagat Foundation. Lornah made a deal with the children to run next year together in the Groet uit Schoorl Run, the Dutch 10 K Championships in Lornah's hometown.

Hilda Kibet The British 10 K London Winner !

Much was expected from Lornah in the British 10 K London Run last weekend.
Competition had to come from former World Marathon Champion and Silver medal winner in the Olympics Catherine Ndereba.
However, things changed when Lornah had to drop out only after 800 meter in the race. She took off like normal and had a 8 second lead after 800 meter but torn a muscle in the right calf and had to stop. Hilda took over and ran solo to a victory in a time of 32:34, over 30 seconds ahead of Catherine Ndereba. It was Hilda's 5th victory already this season !
Lornah and Hilda are on the way to Kenya where Lornah will work on her recovery and Hilda will prepare for the New York City Half Marathon in August.

Lornah Kiplagat won on June 9 for the 4th time the New York City Mini Marathon over 10 K. This Women's only race, the first ever race for Women only in the World, had a very strong field with the winners of the 2006 ING NYC Marathon and the 2007 Boston Marathon.
Lornah started fast like always and had a lead of 10 seconds already after 1 mile. The first Mile went in 4:57. She went on and had a lead of  30 seconds at 5 K ( 15:40 ). She slowed down in the last Mile to High Five with the spectators and her fans in Central park and won in 32:10. Kim Smith from New Zealand was 2nd in 32:17 with Mara Yamauchi from the UK 3rd in 32:20. Benita Johnson was 4th in 32:20 with ING NYC Marathon Champion Jelena Prokopchuka finishing 5th. Lorah's team mate Hilda was till 9 K in 2nd position but finished 6thin 32:36, only 26 seconds behind Lornah. Lornah 5th in Flora London Marathon

Lornah ran last weekend the Flora London Marathon and finished in a time of 2:24:45 in 5th position.
She started in the first group and ran half way in 69:58. After Half marathon she kept on pushing the pace and may favorites for the victory dropped of the pace. Lornah felt great but missed two times her personal drink bottle with her Leppin sports drink and she started to feel this at 36 kilometer. The Chinese Zhou started to push the pace and Lornah couldn't follow. She was up to 401 kilometer still in 3rd position but ran out of fuel and had to slow down dramatically.
However, this was her first race in 4 years where she didn't had any breathing problems and this is very promising for the future. She feels she can do very well in the marathon and especially when the pace is high.
Lornah will now go on vacation and will prepare for some races in June. In August she will run the 10,000 meter at the World Championships in Osaka. With her time of 2:24:45 and her 5th place is Lornah already nominated for the Olympic Marathon in Beijing next year. She will make later this year the decision what distance she will run in the 2008 Olympics.

LORNAH WORLD CHAMPION !

Lornah won last Saturday the 35th World Championships Cross Country. In a sizzling hot Mombasa with very high humidity was Lornah too strong for the rest of the World. She pushed right from the start and got a few seconds on former World Champions Dibaba, Burika and Melkamu from Ethiopia. The gap got bigger every kilometer and at the finish of the 8 K she had a lead of 24 seconds.
The race was held on the scenic Mombasa Golf Course and there were appr. 30,000 spectators.
This is Lornah's biggest succes ever after winning the Silver medal last year in Fukuoka.

5th Victory for Lornah in Puerto Rico

Lornah won for the 5th time the World Best 10 K  in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Sunday February 25. She won the race in 31:05 with Olympic Champion Meseret Defar coming in 2nd in 32:08 ! The conditions were very tough. Very strong wind, 30 degrees C and high humidity made a fast time impossible. Lornah wanted to go for the World Record but realized already after 3 K that this was not possible. Meseret Defar was the only one to run with her but had to let her go at 3,5 K. Lornah's cousin Hilda Kibet was 4th in 32:39 and Helena Kirop, Lornah's trainings partner, was 6th in 32:43.
Lornah is now No one on the 10 K on the World Ranking List with Hilda Kibet 2nd with her 31:26 from Schoorl two weeks ago.
Next race for Lornah will be the World Championships Cross Country in Mombasa on March 24. Hilda will run the City Pier City Half Marathon in the Netherlands next month. Helena will run the Fortis Rotterdam Marathon in April and has no races in between.

Lornah Wins Mombasa

Lornah was booked for the National Dutch Championships on Sunday February 11 but got the opportunity to run in the Kenyan National Championships Cross Country / IAAF Permit Meet on Saturday in Mombasa.
She wanted to test the course in a race and this was a great opportunity. The race started under very hot and humid conditions and after 2 K the whole group, including Lornah, Cetherine Ndereba, Irene Kwambai and other favorites were still together. At 2,5 K Lornah found herself with only tow other athletes, Fridah Domongole and Nzembi Musyoka. Lornah stayed in front and the two women followed until 7 K where Lornah pushed a bit and was gone. She won the 8 K race in 27.02. She felt great after the race and was very happy to be able to support the event. She is convinced the World Cross Country on the same course will be a big success.

Hilda Winning Schoorl 10 K

Hilda Kibet won the Open Dutch Championships on February 11 in a new course record and personal best of 31:25. It was tough for her because she just came from Kenya and the weather in the Netherlands is much colder now.
However, she pushed the pace from the beginning and was 2,5 minute ahead of 2nd pace finisher.

Lornah Kiplagat Foundation

Lornah has launched her Lornah Kiplagat Foundation officially on February 11 in Hotel Jan van Scorel in Schoorl, Netherlands.
During a packed press conference, the chairman of the Foundation, Mr. Cees Pronk, gave a presentation which made clear what the Lornah Kiplagat Foundation is aiming for.
The LKF's main objective is to support young girls with education in Kenya. The aim is to support 50 girls in the first year with scholarships so that they can go to high school. High school in Kenya is very expensive and cost around USD. 500 per student per year while the average income in USD. 1 per day. The LKF has already chosen several students for the program. The website is also launched on the 11th. You can find the information in English and Dutch at: www.lornahkiplagatfoundation.nl or .com or .org

Hilda Kibet winner of Egmond Half Marathon

Hilda Kibet from the HATC in Iten and cousin of Lornah started the year very well. Last year she had several injuries but she has shown this weekend that she is back and stronger than ever before.
She out sprinted 3 time Olympic medal winner Gete Wami from Ethiopia to win for the 2nd time in Egmond, Netherlands. She won the race in 1:13:25, same time as Wami. 3rd was Pauline Wangui in 1:15:11 with on the 5th place Tegla Loroupe in 1:18:12.
Hilda will also run the Groet uit Schoorl 10 K in Schoorl next month and the World Best 10 K in Puerto Rico on february 25.

Lornah Kiplagat Foundation

We are working very hard to get things moving for the Lornah Kiplagat Foundation. The Foundation will be officially announced during the Dutch Championships 10 K on February 11 in Lornah's hometown Groet.
The first donations came in already. Mirjam Olthoff decided not to send Christmas cards this year but send that money to the Foundation. Her college Marcel Kranendonk heard of this initiative and also donated money. The LKF's most important goal is to take care that young Kenyan girls get education. We soon open a new website for the Foundation.

HAPPY  NEW YEAR !

All of us at the HATC want to wish you a very Happy and healthy 2007.

Lornah in 2006.

The year 2006 has been the most successful year of Lornah’s career so far. She won most of her road races , was 2nd at the World Championships Cross Country, became World Champion on the Road, ran 2 World Records and ended the year as Number One on the IAAF World Ranking List. This means she was the best road racer in 2006 in the World.
Her only disappointment was the ING NYC Marathon, especially because she trained very well and was in the best shape of her life. However, things can go wrong and one has to learn from it.
For this year she will again run a Spring Marathon, the Flora London Marathon. In 1997 Lornah was pace setter in the Flora London Marathon so she’sll be back after 10 years.
First she will defend her title at the Dutch Championships 10 K Road in Schoorl and at the World Best 10 K in Puerto Rico on February 25.

Lornah 8th in ING NYC Marathon

Lornah finished 8th in the ING New York City Marathon on November 5 in a time of 2.32.31. Lornah had an incredible good year with a Silver medal in the World XC Championships and Gold in the World Road race Championships and World records in the 10 Mile and 20 K. She is ranked No 1 on the IAAF World Road Ranking List and is Road racer of the year from Running Times.

Last year Lornah was one of the top favorites but she came in 10th. This year she approached it different and saw running the ING NYC Marathon as an " extra bonus" at the end of the year. Of course she wanted to run well and she prepared better than ever before. Every one expected a high pace but half way the women were on a 2:28 pace. It was going a bit too slow for Lornah and when some women started to push after 19 Mile, she couldn't accelerate and follow.  She finished in a disappointing 2:32:31 but with the feeling that she gave it all. It was just not her day.

She'll go back to her trainings camp in Iten, Kenya to recover and start preparations for the Shoe4Africa Women's event on December 16 in Iten.

16-10-2006

Hellen Loshanyang 2nd in Amsterdam !

HATC atlete Hellen Loshanyang, Lornah's trainings partner since two months, was 2nd in the ING Amsterdam marathon in a Personal best time of 2:28:51. She improved her time with almost 6 minutes. At 35 K she was still in 4th position and 67 seconds behind, at 40 K she was 2nd, only 15 seconds behind. However, she pulled her hamstring and couldn't push anymore. Rose Cheryuiot won the race in 2:28:26.

Former  HATC member Solomon Bushendich won the ING Marathon in 2:08:52 in his debut. Bushendich is training in Iten, Kenya.

HATC member Luc Krotwaar was competing in the European Championships last weekend. It took Luc some time to qualify for the Europeans because he had an injury but at the last moment he was able to qualify. Luc ran an incredible race and moved slowly from the 22nd position in the field to the 4th position. He was for a while in 3rd position and competing for this spot with Rey from Spain. Lornah 5th at European Champion ships

Lornah ran yesterday the 10,000 meter at the European Championships. Lornah's preparation was not great after she got injured at the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta early July. Therefor she was not able to train the first two, important, weeks of July. She did only two training sessions at the track in the preparation and was not able to work on her sprint. There for she started fast and tried to break the competition of 24 athletes. This strategy worked out pretty well but she was not strong enough to go even faster towards the end of the race. She was for 24 laps in the lead but in the final 400 meter four athletes passed her and she finished 5th in 30:37. Her last kilometer went in 2:58.

Of course there is disappointment but the positive part is that she can run 30:37 after only three weeks of training and this is a good base for the rest of the season. Lornah will announce later this week what her next race will be.

Lornah won already Silver at the World Championships Half Marathon last october, Gold at the European XC and Silver again at the World XC last April.

Great Support from "Tribe" for HATC

The Atlanta based ad agency Tribe Inc. has decided to support the HATC. They will fund the construction of a new studyroom / library so that the girls in the camp can study during the school holidays. The girls are now using the restaurant to study but they need a quite place where they can focus on their study. The HATC will also start a library with books for the girls ans with all kind of books on training and nutrition. We will also put some computers in the study room so that the girls can use them to study. The computers were donated several years ago by Siemens.

Tribe Inc. CEO Elizabeth Cogswell Baskin handed over a check to the founder of the HATC, Lornah Kiplagat, at a function in the office of Tribe Inc. last week in Atlanta. Elizabeth Cogswell Baskin was inspired by Lornah last year when the two met at a dinner in Atlanta and decided to support the HATC.

Thanks a lot Tribe !!

LORNAH 2ND IN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Lornah shocked the athletics World last weekend by taking right from the gun the lead in the World Championships Cross Country. Already after 1 K of the 8 K race, she was pushing the pace and was giving the top favorites, the Ethiopians, a hard time. Every lap she pushed harder and harder and with 3 kilometer to go she was about 3 seconds ahead of 4 times World Champion Tirunesh Dibaba. At the last hill, with 300 meters to go, Dibaba accelerated and took the lead. Dibaba won the race and Lornah was 2nd. Ethiopia also took the 3rd place. It was the first time in history that the Netherlands won a medal in the World Championships XC. Lornah was 6th in the 2004 World Championships.

On Sunday Lornah also ran the 4 K, the short distance. She was staying in the group the first 2 K but after 2 K she started to push again. At the end she had to sprint for a medal but lost the spring and came in 5th, again a great performance ! She missed the bronze medal with only 2 seconds but she was extremely happy with her 5th position.

Lornah won last year October Silver in the World Championships Half Marathon, in December Gold in the European Championships XC and now a Silver again. This year she also won the Dutch Championships 10 K in the Groet uit Schoorl Run and won the World's Best 10 K in Puerto Rico in 30:49.

Lornah Dutch Champion 10 K

After spending a few months in Kenya Lornah raced again on February 11 in her home town Groet in the Netherlands. She competed in the Dutch Open Championships 10 K on the road. Last year she won the title in 33:05. The weather was tough for Lornah because she came from Kenya where the temperature was 28 degrees and she hadn't seen any rain since November.
In the Netherlands it was 2 degrees, it was raining and she felt not great. However, she started pretty well and ran the first three kilometer together with her cousin Hilda Kibet. After 3 K she started to push a little and won the race in 31:51, a new course record with 46 seconds. Also Hilda was still under the old record, she came in 2nd in 32:11.

Both Lornah and Hilda are in Puerto Rico now to run the World's best 10 K in San Juan on February 26. They will face a very stiff competition with Derarte Tulu, Susan Chepkemei, Meseret Defar, Jelena Prokopchuka, Worknesk Kidane, Deena Kastor and many others.

Lornah back in training

Lornah started her training already one week after her disappointing ING NYC Marathon. She is training in the HATC in Iten and is gettinbg ready for the European Championships XC in Tilburg, Netherlands. Lornah is not really a XC specialist but having the European XC Championships in her own country is gicing her extra motivation to work very hard.

Lornah 10th in ING NYC Marathon

Lornah finished a disappointing 10th in the ING NYC Marathon in a time of 2:28:28. The preparation went perfect and she felt great before the race. The weather was good and she had her cousin Hilda Kibet with her who did a great job in the race as pace setter.

However, after 4 Mile Lornah developed some breathing problems due to the high humidity of 97 %. She had to skip some drinks but at 30 K the problems came back and she couldn't respond when 4 women moved away from the pack. She felt great during the first half, it went very easy and she wanted to save energy for the 2nd half.

Lornah was checked by sports doctor Peter Vergouwen after the race and the conclusion is that the problems came from her astma. Normally she doesn't have problems but the humidity was just too high for her.

Hilda Kibet looked very strong and had the lead all the way till 16 Mile where she had to drop out as pace setter. She might be back in NY next year but then to finish the race !

Lornah's Road to the ING NYC Marathon
Lornah and Hilda are traveling today to New York City. They are very excited to go but feel a sadness to leave the beautiful city of Boulder. They've made so many great friends in Boulder and feel really in love with the place. So many people supported them while they were staying in the town.

There are just too many to mention but we have to thank the massage therapist Kevin Jordan, Physiotherapist Mark Plaatjes, the Sports doctor Fran Mason, Lorraine, Bob and Jan from "Goodbye Blue Monday" and of course our ‘Rock‘, Michael Sandrock.

We have already made plans to come back next June to Boulder to prepare for some US road races. On Monday there was a article written by John Meyer in the Denver Post on Lornah, you can check the story online at www.denverpost.com/sports/ci_3167303
You can also find news on Lornah at http://www.tanser.org/ There will also be a story on Runner’s World Online Wednesday featuring Lornah.

Want to talk to Lornah this week in NY ? She'll be at the ING booth at the ING NYC Marathon Expo on Friday morning November 4 at 11 AM. This event is free to all people, whether you are running the marathon or not, and there are free buses running in the city of New York to take you there - so why not drop by on Friday and say hello.

Also on Friday there will be more news on Lornah and Hilda in the Big Apple, getting ready for the ‘big’ ING NYC Marathon.

27-10-05
Lornah's Road to the ING NYC Marathon.

The countdown has started and Lornah is getting ready for the trip to NY next week. The last days in Boulder have been perfect; cold in the morning and nicely warm during the daytime. The final speed sessions have been completed, and the last long run has been done. So now there is a lot of rest in the day‘s program. It's always tough these last few weeks because the athlete has to ‘taper,’ meaning to reduce the training so that the body is rested enough to race hard in the marathon.

Lornah is training every day with her cousin Hilda. The rest of the day they chat or simply sleep. One of their favorite things of course is to shop at Flatirons Mall and to get a cup of extra hot Chai at either Starbucks or the Trident. Especially the Trident as it is a great place to relax and meet with all the local runners, writers, etc. Lornah went also this week to Sherpa's, a great restaurant in Boulder serving authentic Sherpa food. Pemba, the owner, is a big fan of Africa and climbed both Kilimanjaro and Mt Kenya. He'll be back in Kenya in 2006 and is planning to visit the HATC.

Tuesday Lornah and Hilda will fly to NY and on Wednesday it is the women's press conference at the Tavern on the Green. Do you want to meet with Lornah in NY ? Come to the ING booth at the Marathon Expo on Friday the 4th at 11:00 AM and you can chat with her and get an autograph!

News on the HATC.
The HATC is building a new Gym and a clinic for Physiotherapy. Both will be officially opened later this year on the 19th of December. The construction is now near its completion, and the project is right on schedule. A container of fitness equipment, sponsored by the ‘ALO’, (the Sport Academy of Amsterdam), will arrive in Kenya at the end of October to fully equip the facility.

We hope to have the container in Iten set for installation in the middle of November. The building that will house the Gym, a clinic, and a conference room, will cover an area of three hundred square meters, and its location is adjacent to the camp.

The Gym and clinic will be open not only to the guests of the HATC but also to athletes from the surrounding district. Jeroen Deen, both a well known sports physiotherapist and athlete, will be the head of the clinic and Gym. Jeroen plans to arrive in Kenya during November after first running the ING NYC Marathon. Jeroen’s idea is to stay for at least three years at the HATC.

Lornah's Road to the ING NYC Marathon

The last two weeks of the training have been tough; but the results show great promise. Last weekend Lornah's trainer, Gerard van Lent, came over from the Netherlands to see how she is responding to the training and to see if any adjustments need to be made. Unlike the last three years, Lornah hasn't skipped any of the training program. Due to chronic injuries issues in the past she had always had to skip sections of the marathon plan, but this year she is totally free of injuries. She sees the Physiotherapist Mark Plaatjes every week, and also the massage therapist Kevin Jordan, and so far they have kept her fit and healthy.

Lornah's cousin Hilda Kibet has now arrived in Boulder from the Netherlands; last week she was 2nd in the Groningen 4-mile race in 19.58 -- the second fastest time in the World this year for the distance. Kibet will also run in the ING NYC Marathon.

Last night we had a great dinner with Michael Sandrock, the author of ‘Run with the legends‘. Lornah and Hilda made Chapati’s and Ugali -- typical Kenyan food, with a beef stew and a lot of vegetables.

It's now less than three weeks before New York and Lornah is getting ready with her final preparations. She feels good, also because she is running less miles now as the tapering has begun.

SILVER FOR LORNAH IN THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
For the first time ever in her illustrious career Lornah won a medal in a World Championships. She finished the runner-up in the 14th World Championships Half Marathon last Saturday in Edmonton, Canada.
The conditions were very tough; rain and unseasonably cold weather.  Lornah did not feel her best as she had done her preparations in pretty warm weather in Boulder, Colorado the last six weeks.

However, after a few kilometers Lornah, Susan Chepkemei, Derartu Tulu, Merima Hashim and Constantina Dita-Tomescu had broken away to form a small leading group. At 6 K Constantina ran away from the group and nobody was able to follow her pace. Lornah had to stop and quickly stretch because of severe cramps letting the pack, and Constantina forge ahead.

Lornah caught back up with the group and together with Susan Chepkemei they were able to drop the others. Constantina was now a lock for the gold and Lornah ran the rest of the race together with Chepkemei. It came down to the final 100m; Lornah, not known as a great sprinter, was able to win the sprint at the finish and placed second in 1:10:19, just one second ahead of her Kenyan rival.
Lornah, now back to Boulder, will not race again until the ING New York Marathon.

LORNAH'S ROAD TO THE ING NYC MARATHON
The morning after the World Championships Lornah got up at 5 AM to catch the first flight to NY where she arrived at 6 PM to her hotel in Manhattan. Lornah had two days of rest but within 5 minutes of arriving in the Big Apple Lornah and Pieter were outside their hotel ready to go for an easy run. They went for 30 minutes, just to check where the Park was in relation to the hotel.

The next morning Lornah went to the Park for a training and what followed was a day packed with media events. First filming for ESPN's ‘Cold Pizza‘, then to a lunch with members of the press, NYRR, and some executives of ING. After lunch some filming in the Park and then off to Public School 69.

At PS 69 Lornah gave a clinic, signed autographs, and had a great time with the kids.  This is what she really likes because she can motivate the kids to do sport and to study. NYRR and ING Run For Something Better are supporting many school kids and PS 69 is included in this program. The schoolkids promised to be  in the cheering zone in the Bronx on November 6th rooting for Lornah! After again many interviews she finished up with a great dinner in NY with several people from NYRR.

She arrived back ‘home’ in Boulder at around midnight. On Tuesday she started her training again, still easy but tough training is coming up again very soon. The weather also changed, it's now much colder so this is good for the preparation of the ING NYC Marathon.

27-09-05

Last week was again a pretty tough week in terms of the training but Lornah has already started to taper for the World Championships Half Marathon to be held this Saturday, October 1st, in Edmonton, Canada. She still did some long runs, and sessions of speed work, but of a lesser amount than in the preceding weeks.

On Monday she carried out a lengthy interview with Jonathan Beverly, Running Times Editor, and several people from the Dutch Press called her in Boulder to monitor her progress towards the Championships.
This Thursday she will fly to Edmonton, and on Friday give an IAAF press conference. The big day of course is on Saturday; what will be the final IAAF World Half Marathon Championship. Lornah feels strong and she will give 100% as is her signature at races.

She has won many races so far but never a medal in a major championship. This week she will still do some speed work on the track but resting up will be the key element of her training.
Our thanks go out to the many fans who have emailed us messages of support and wishes of luck case. Case in point; Kenneth Mbithi from Serena hotel in Nairobi, Kenya, sent her a nice text message that he and his friends are cheering for her!

Lornah's Road to the ING NYC Marathon

Lornah had the toughest week of the preparation so far but things went very well. She did some extremely tough training sessions but she "survived" everything very well. She is going every week to a Physiotherapist in Boulder, former World Champion Marathon Mark Plaatjes, and every week she gets massage from Mark's wife Shirley.
She is almost every day in the Gym to do aqua jogging, Strength training and to go to the sauna. This week it will be a bit easier because she will start to taper already for the World Championships Half Marathon on the 1st of October in Edmonton, Canada. The day after the Championships  she'll fly to New York for a press conference for the ING NYC Marathon and to do visit a school in NY.
Gerard, Lornah's trainer, will also come to Boulder, he will arrive  on October 8. On the 10th her cousin Hilda will arrive so that she will have a training partner. So far she is doing most training alone, only in the long runs she gets support from Eddie Ernest Jones who stayed last winter at the HATC in Iten.

Mark Tikkel, the intern from the ALO in Amsterdam, reports that the construction of the Gym and the clinic in Iten is going very well. There are several people training at the HATC at the moment. Most well known is Dutch Marathon Champion Luc Krotwaar who is getting ready for the Eindhoven Marathon. We have had a lot of e mails from people, from Olympians to recreational runners, who would like to come to the camp and train there for a few weeks. There are still some rooms available for the coming winter!

Lornah's Road to the ING NYC Marathon

Things are going very well in Boulder. Lornah's training is going well and the weather is still great. It's every day 84 degrees ( 29 C ) and clear blue skies. We train in several parts of Boulder: At Boulder South where we live at the moment, in North Boulder at the reservoir, at Magnolia Road in Nederland at 8400 ft ( 2500 meter ), at the track of the High School and 4 times per week at the Boulder North recreational Center. Lornah's schedule is pretty tough and she loves to go to the Rec center to do some strength training and especially to visit the sauna. She really feels much better after being in the sauna so we go there several times a week. It's also a great place for aqua jogging, she is using the special water running shoes.

There is a great running community in Boulder and everyone is very social. The weekend we had dinner with Michael Sandrock, author of " Run with the legends" at a Nepal restaurant. Great food, Lornah felt like home with Chapati's, beef stew, Chai, etc. Several times a week we visit the Trident, one of the great coffee/tea places in Boulder where all the runners meet and just hang out.

Lornah also got last week her Adidas outfit for the World Championships Half Marathon, of course everything in Orange, the National color of the Netherlands. Right after the World's we fly to New York where Lornah is invited by NYRR and ING to do some press work and a clinic at a school in the Bronx.

Next week more news !

Lornah's Road to New York

Lornah had a very tough week of training in Boulder with several long runs and some tough speed work. She got the support from some friends like Michael Sandrock who drove with her in the car on her long runs in the Boulder North reservoir. Also with her was Eddie Ernest - Jones, he trained last year for 6 months in the HATC in Iten and ran the Rotterdam Marathon with Lornah. Eddie is staying in the Denver area but drove to Boulder to support Lornah on her long run.
Lornah is staying in Boulder South at the moment but the place is not very quite so she is looking for a better place. Problem is to find a nice place near the trails but Michel Sandrock is looking for a her.

The HATC: The construction of the new Gym and Physiotherapy clinic is going very well. They are working right now on the roof which will be ready this week. The container with fitness equipment, a gift from the ALO, the Amsterdam Sports Academy, is on the way and expected to be in Nairobi the first week of October. The official opening of the Gym / Clinic is planned for december 19th.
Right now there are several people training in the HATC, all for the Fall marathons. Three people from the Netherlands are training for the Eindhoven marathon and the ING Amsterdam Marathon and next week we get people from the UK training for the XC season.

Lornah's Road to New York.

After being for almost two weeks in Boulder, Colorado, Lornah is feeling great and the training is going well. She has done some speedwork already and several long runs. Most of the long runs she is doing at Magnolia Rd in Nederland, a small town at an altitude of 8236 ft ( 2500 meter ) only 20 minutes drive from Boulder. She loves the place not only because she is from the Nederland ( Dutch for the Netherlands ) but it is very quite and there are many trails where you can still meet with many animals like foxes, deers, etc. Lornah stayed the first two weeks in Niwot, just North of Boulder but this weekend she moved to an apartment in Boulder South. The apartment we got is next to the trails of Boulder South, only two minutes jog from the pool and the track and is a perfect location for her training. Lornah will stay in Boulder South till the end of September when she goes to Edmonton for the World Half Marathon Championships. She has no races in September, she just want to focus on the World's Half and the ING NYC Marathon. Photo: Lornah and Pieter's son Mark in Nederland

Lornah in Boulder

Lornah had a busy week after her victory in Falmouth. On Monday she went to New York to do some shopping at the Adidas store on Broadway. After a night in NY, with of course a great meal at Lornah's favorite restaurant Pasta D'Oro on 7th, she flew to Denver and from there by car to Boulder. Mike Sandrock, author of " Run with the legends" took care of her and arranged that we can stay with Mark Mathieu in Niwot, north of Boulder and very close to the trails.. On Thursday we watched the Pearl Street Mile and saw Luminita Talpos winning, ahead of 20 plus Japanese athletes. On Friday morning Lornah got a private clinic from Gary Killgore who invented special shoes for deep water running. Lornah is doing a lot of aqua jogging and with these shoes it feels like you are running, great product and she will use them in her training, check it out at www.aqxsports.com. Friday she also did a long run at Magnolia Rd in Nederland, a small town at 2500 meter/ 8250 ft. Last Sunday a 2 !
hour long run around the reservoir in Boulder North, very hot but great work out. In the meantime we got great news from the HATC in Iten. The construction of the new gym/physio clinic is going very well. We'll keep you informed.

Another victory for Lornah

Lornah ran last Saturday the Beach to Beacon 10 K in Cape Elizabeth in Maine, USA. She arrived only a few days before the race but the good care of her hosts Sheila and George made her feel great. The day before the race Sheila and her daughter Erin made an " Ugali" party with the help of Paul Koech. Lornah, John Korir, Gilbert Okari, Evans Ruto, Paul Koech, James Koskei and Sally Barsosio all enjoyed it very much. On race day Lornah felt strong and ran the first mile with the Men. Half way she was under the course record but she slowed down too much at the end. Lornah won in 31.34 and was 22 seconds ahead of Russian Ivanova.
Lornah is now in Falmouth with her host famnily Arne and Andrea Grepstadt. She checked already some restaurants and if you are planning to run in Falmouth this weekend, try Fishmonger's in Woodshole or Cucina sul Mare in Falmouth. Next week more news !
